Cooperation and capacity building: DAUA’s experience at the Global Research Alliance

From July 6 to 8, Dagmar Wittine, Head of the Uruguayan-German Dialogue on Agriculture (DAUA), participated in the Council Meeting of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) in San José, Costa Rica, an international alliance that brings together countries and research institutions to promote scientific cooperation and strengthen capacities to address the challenges associated with greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector.

Within this framework, she presented the Bilateral Cooperation Programme (BKP) of the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) as a model for capacity building, using DAUA’s successful experience as an example, highlighting its work to connect public institutions, science and other stakeholders around strategic challenges for the sustainable development of agriculture.

The presentation also included references to the AgriDENZ Dialogue project between Germany and New Zealand, another BKP project that is thematically linked to GRA’s objectives and provides a point of reference for different forms of bilateral cooperation and knowledge generation.

This event provided an opportunity to share DAUA’s experience while also learning about other initiatives and approaches to capacity building in the region. 
On July 9, Dagmar Wittine also participated in FONTAGRO’s Technical Meeting, held as part of its Science Week 2026.

Both events provided opportunities to deepen collaboration among countries and institutions and enabled the exchange of experiences that can enrich efforts to address shared challenges.
