DAUA at the 3rd Pan-American Bioinputs Forum – Colombia 2025
From October 22 to 24, the 3rd Pan-American Bioinputs Forum was held in Rionegro, Colombia, organized by the Hemispheric Bioinputs Platform (PHB) of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). This event brought together more than 200 participants from 18 countries and 47 speakers - producers, researchers, companies, and authorities from across the Americas to strengthen the development, regulation, and sustainable use of bioinputs. It was a reaffirmation of the commitment of the Americas to more sustainable, competitive and science-based agriculture.
The Uruguayan-German Dialogue on Agriculture (DAUA), as a member of the PHB-“Knowledge Management Group”, contributes to strengthening technical exchange and scientific cooperation between Germany, Uruguay, and Latin America, promoting more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
Within this framework, DAUA facilitated the participation of the Uruguayan expert Nicolás Rubio Cat (SOSEI BioAg) in Panel No. 4: “Knowledge Bridges: Towards the Effective Adoption of Bioinputs,” moderated by Edgard Ramírez from the Argentine-German Dialogue on Sustainable Agricultural Innovations (DAAIAS) and co-organized by Ignacio Sommer (DAUA) and colleagues from GIZ Costa Rica.
The panel discussed the challenges and opportunities to expand the adoption of bioinputs in the region, emphasizing the key role of agricultural extension and networking in promoting the transition towards living soils.
During his presentation, Rubio outlined the current situation of bioinputs in Uruguay’s extensive farming management, from a holistic perspective based on soil health and its integration within process-oriented agriculture.
The last day of the forum included a visit to a flower-producing company, recognized for its social and environmental commitment and use of bioinputs, as well as to a bioinput-producing company. Concluding with an enriching visit of AGROSAVIA – the national Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation.
This exchange reaffirms DAUA’s commitment to knowledge management and regional cooperation as key pillars for accelerating agricultural sustainability in Latin America.
