DAUA at GFFA 2026 | Exchange, cooperation and opportunities for Uruguay and the region
From January 14 to 17, the 18th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) 2026 was held in Berlin under the theme of “Water. Harvests. Our Future”, consolidating its role as one of the leading international platforms for exchange of knowledge and ideas on agri-food systems. The event is organized by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH).
By invitation of BMLEH, our leader Dagmar Wittine represented DAUA at the reception for international guests of honour, held on the evening of January 15, where the BMLEH Minister, Alois Rainer, welcomed participants and opened the networking and exchange.
On Friday, January 16, the Cluster Meeting “Latin America: Innovations and markets from high technology to agroecology” took place at the BMLEH stand within the Cooperation Forum and was moderated by GFA Consulting Group GmbH, the General Mandate Holder of BMLEH.
During this exchange, Dagmar Wittine, in her role as regional coordinator of the projects of BMLEH’s Bilateral Cooperation Program (BKP) in Latin America represented not only DAUA, but also the Agricultural Policy Dialogue Brazil-Germany (APD) and the Colombian-German Agroecological Project (PACA). She highlighted the strengths of coordinated work, the chances and added-value of connecting stakeholders, and the cooperation opportunities offered by Uruguay and the region. In this context, the Agricultural Counsellors of the German Embassy for the Southern Cone and for Brazil, shared key information on the agricultural sector in the countries they represent, while private sector representatives contributed their experiences and perspectives. The meeting saw strong attendance and active engagement with the audience.
Within this framework, GFFA 2026 brought together stakeholders from politics, research, international cooperation and the private sector to discuss the sustainable use of water in agriculture and the blue bioeconomy, highlighting the potential of algae and aquaculture as pathways for sustainable development.
As Uruguayan-German Dialogue on Agriculture (DAUA), we continue to participate in international spaces for exchange and joint action, contributing to the strengthening of dialogue and cooperation as key tools for advancing more sustainable agri-food systems.
